CONNECT and LOOK at me opened for visitors

The festival of contemporary art Mykolaiv ART Week opened for visitors its exhibitions “CONNECT” and “LOOK at me” in the art space *8 PRICHAL.

Exhibitions are open to visitors from 7 to 16 May (on weekdays – from 16:00 to 20:00, and from 12:00 to 20:00 on weekends). The entrance is free.

CONNECT is a comprehensive study and reflection on the transformation of the modern world in the era of global urbanization and digitalization, as well as the period of combating new challenges: climate, epidemiological, social.

The open call of the main exhibition received 161 applications from 136 participants from 34 cities in Ukraine, Northern Macedonia, China, Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Italy and Russia. The exhibition includes works by 52 authors in various genres: photography, graphics and painting, collage, animation, video art, performance, sculpture, installation and VR. Most of them are created during lockdown and reflect the topic of human connections during distancing and self-isolation at home.

LOOK at me is an actualization of photographs by the American director Stanley Kubrick of 1946-1950 through their interaction with digital instruments. Errors and accidents in signal processing generate a specific environment, through deformation that can bring new meanings into already established artistic structures and forms.

20 photos from the director’s photo archive are presented at the exhibition in the interpretation of contemporary Ukrainian artists –  brothers Ivan and Vasyl Kostenko, also known as BRATY, who demonstrate a new look at aesthetic events.

In 1945, the future director was hired by LOOK Magazine – an American socio-political magazine, where special attention was paid to photography. Then 17-year-old Stanley Kubrick became the youngest photographer in the history of the magazine.
